Product overview

 

OPGW adds optical fiber on the premise of maintaining all the performance and functions of the original overhead ground wire, opens up a high-performance optical transmission channel, and makes it have both lightning protection and communication functions. It is a power cable with dual functions of traditional overhead ground wire and communication capability.

 

Application

 

OPGW optical cable is mainly used on 500kV, 220kV and 110kV voltage grade lines. Affected by line power failure, safety and other factors, it is mostly used on new lines.
The applicable characteristics of OPGW are:
(1) For lines with high voltage exceeding 110KV, the span is large (generally above 250m);
(2) It is easy to maintain and solve the problem of line crossing, and its mechanical characteristics can meet the requirements of line crossing;
(3) The outer layer of OPGW is metal armor, which has no effect on high voltage corrosion and degradation;
(4) OPGW must be powered off during construction, and the power failure loss is large, so OPGW should be used in new high-voltage lines above 110kV;
(5) In the performance indexes of OPGW, the greater the short-circuit current, the more it needs to be armored with good conductors, which correspondingly reduces the tensile strength. When the tensile strength is certain, to improve the short-circuit current capacity, only increase the metal cross-sectional area, resulting in the increase of cable diameter and cable weight, which puts forward safety problems for the strength of line poles and towers.
